The Truth is Tough: Natchitoches Parish Has Too Many Homeless Pets.
FAUNA works tirelessly to save as many animals as possible — through local adoptions, rescue transports to areas with higher demand, and providing shelter at our facility. But the reality is, the volume of stray and surrendered animals in Natchitoches far exceeds our capacity.
At local animal control, strays have just 7 days after being posted on Facebook before they may be euthanized. For owner-surrendered pets, there’s no required holding period at all. This is why spaying and neutering is not just important — it’s urgent.
We all adore puppies and kittens — but the most responsible thing we can do for our community is to spay or neuter our pets.
Natchitoches is facing a serious pet overpopulation crisis — and it’s putting countless lives at risk.
At FAUNA (Friends All United for Natchitoches Animals), we do everything we can to save lives — from finding loving homes locally, to transporting pets to areas with higher adoption demand, to housing as many animals as possible at our Site 1 and Site 2 facilities.
But the heartbreaking truth is, we simply can’t keep up. Every week, more animals are abandoned or surrendered than we have space for. At the local animal control facility, strays have just 7 days after being posted for adoption on Facebook — and for owner surrenders, there’s no holding period at all.
Spaying and neutering is the only long-term solution to stop this cycle before it starts.

Spay Natchitoches
- To apply online, please fill out the application below.
- Applications are processed weekly and vouchers mailed to qualifying applicants. Please allow 7-10 days for a response on your voucher application. If you have already made an appointment for your pet due to concerns of unwanted litters, email Spaynatchitoches@yahoo.com and we will make every effort to expedite your voucher.
- If you have sent in an application and have not received a response within 3 weeks, please email Spaynatchitoches@yahoo.com to be sure your application was received.
- Vouchers are only good for 30 days. If you are unable to use your voucher within the 30 days it is valid, please let us know as soon as possible and we will make every effort to provide you with a new voucher or make arrangements for use of the voucher you currently have.
Filling out this application does not guarantee you a spay/ neuter voucher. Vouchers will be provided as long as funds are available.
The voucher is a coupon/discount for a portion of the cost of spaying/neutering. The amount you will pay, yourself, will depend on the price for spaying/neutering at the vet you choose. Usually, the amount you pay will be under $100, including rabies shot, if needed. Think of that as a donation to our community, and it means you will not have to worry about finding homes for your pet’s offspring!
If you cannot afford $100 at a local vet, please check out Magnolia Spay Neuter’s website, below. They are low-cost and based in Alexandria, Louisiana.
We try to have their mobile clinic come to Natchitoches a few times a year, so be sure to follow us, and them, on Facebook for dates!
IMPORTANT: Magnolia Spay/Neuter does not take dogs over 70lbs at the offsite clinics or over 90lbs at their Alexandria location.
